Art Under Corona

March 2020. We were told to go home and stay. The City of Chicago was in lockdown.

Nobody knew what that meant or how long it would last. I have a lot of self-care techniques

but I found the isolation challenging. Words didn’t come easily, but paintings

flowed out of me. 2020-2021, I painted 50+ paintings. The paintings became my medicine

and my companions. 

Art helps people get through difficult times. Art is work. Art is joyful.

Art distracts and also helps focus and blooms creativity, which helps us feel more alive.

Art Under Corona tells the story of the lockdown of 2020 through paintings.

The images came in dreams and meditations. One painting led to another. 

Themes of confusion, isolation, grief, protection, loneliness, community, hope,

celebration, new beginnings, letting go, friendship, and Love became more clear.

This mighty bird protects. He fights with love and science. 

Thank you, scientists, doctors, nurses, parents, teachers and therapists,

Mariano’s cashiers, bus drivers, farmers, and many more.

Invaders/ AKA

Covid 19

The Invaders come at night in a cough or a hug. We stay inside.

Hospitals. Ventilators. Goodbye on facetime. Too much death.

Too much politics.

 Walls: Protection

Doing the right thing!

Lockdown. Behind the walls. Tall buildings. Masks. 

Alone. Not alone. Zoom birthday and zoom Christmas.

When will it end?

Community

Families speak to each other across the world. 

The lucky ones work from home.

Zooming.

Book of Life

Masks. Social distance. Vaccines.

Doing the right thing for a year and a half.

Shaking the Purse

Shaking out the purse. Shaking out all my ideas, thoughts,

feelings, and old patterns...letting go.

Get Away

Longing to get away but can’t leave. Lucky to still be here.

Celebration/Confusion

Lockdown is lifted. Masks off. Eating in restaurants. Celebration.

Delta. Herd Immunity, no. Not fast enough. Political. Mask up again.

Confusion. 

What is going on?

We Need Each 

Other.

This I know is true. Science heals and we need each other. 

Love and get vaccinated.
